Street closures: Montréal's Tour la Nuit and Tour de l'île (June 2 and 4, 2017)

The 2017 Go Bike Montréal Festival will be in full swing with the Tour la Nuit (Friday, June 2) and the Montréal Tour de l'île (Sunday, June 4).

Please note the following street closures near the Grande Bibliothèque during these events:

Friday, June 2: Berri Street (between Cherrier and Sainte-Catherine streets) and De Maisonneuve Boulevard East (between Saint-Laurent and Berri streets) will be closed from 7:45 p.m. to around midnight;
Sunday, June 4: Berri Street (between Roy and Sainte-Catherine streets) will be closed from 10 a.m. to 4.30 p.m.

IMPORTANT: access to the Grande Bibliothèque's underground parking lot will be restricted during these periods as it will not be possible to use the north section of Savoie Avenue as an exit because of work undertaken by the Société de transport de Montréal. Staff of the Société Parc-Auto du Québec, responsible for managing the parking lot, will inform users.

From the Street to the Grande Bibliothèque

A new partnership between community organization L’Itinéraire and Bibliothèque et Archives nationales du Québec (BAnQ) was announced by Luc Desjardins, Director of L’Itinéraire, and Jean-Luc Murray, BAnQ’s Director of Education and Programming. The announcement took place on Tuesday, May 23, 2017, at an evening tribute to people who have shaped L’Itinéraire’s social action over the past 25 years. This event was attended by Montréal Mayor Denis Coderre.

In the context of the partnership, BAnQ will highlight and display publications and literary content created by L’Itinéraire vendors during writing workshops at the Grande Bibliothèque. The partners have also agreed to set up a series of participatory workshops that will lead to exhibitions. The workshops are scheduled until April 2020.

Activities beginning this summer include photography workshops that will focus on how vendors see the neighbourhoods around two BAnQ buildings: the Grande Bibliothèque and BAnQ Vieux-Montréal. Participants’ photographs and points of view will provide the basis of an exhibition opening in the fall of 2017.
