Joining provides patrons with a library card granting them full access to the services, collections and equipment provided on site at the Grande Bibliothèque or on BAnQ's Web portal. Patrons will be able to:

Stop by the subscription desk (comptoir d'abonnement) at the Grande Bibliothèque or in one of BAnQ's other facilities. Please have on hand valid and recent personal I.D. and proof of residence. Click here for the list of accepted documents. Accepted proofs.

Subscriptions are valid for a 2-year period.

People who do not hold Canadian citizenship, but who hold a permanent or temporary residence permit (for work or study) and reside in Québec can join free of charge to gain access to all the services and receive their subscriber's card. The duration of the subscription is determined by the expiry date of the residence permit.

Non-residents of Québec can pay to receive a subscriber's card. However, online access to digital ressources requiring login, including the borrowing of e-books, is granted only to subscribers who reside in Québec.

Children ages 13 and younger must be accompanied by a parent or tutor when they join. The parent or tutor signs the child's subscriber's card and is responsible for the subscription privileges granted. Proof of identity is required for the child and proof of residence for the parent or tutor. The subscriber's card for children provides access to all collections and services offered at Espace Jeunes and in the printed music collection.

HautRenewal of subscriptions

If the fees in your account amount to less than $10 and your card has been expired for less than 2 years, you can renew your subscription by calling us at 514 873-1100, option 2 (Montréal region) or 1 800 363-9028, option 2 (elsewhere in Québec). Have your subscriber’s card close at hand.

If your card has been expired for more than 2 years, you must stop by the subscription desk (comptoir d'abonnement) at the Grande Bibliothèque or in one of the other BAnQ facilities with your card and valid personal I.D. and proof of residence. If the fees in your account amount to more than $10, you will have to pay them or, at least, lower your balance to less than $10.

If you lose your card, you must notify BAnQ immediately. You must present a valid piece of personal I.D. at the Grande Bibliothèque's subscription desk (comptoir d'abonnement) or in any other BAnQ facility and pay fees to receive a new card.
